Disasters Relief Information

The Long-Term Recovery Committee of Sumner County was established in 2006 under the umbrella of Gallatin C.A.R.E.S. to provide long-term recovery assistance to  victims of major disasters. The goal is to coordinate and deliver much-needed human services in an effective and cost efficient manner.

100% of all funds received are used to provide direct assistance to the victims of disasters.

A significant number of families affected will need our assistance long after the Red Cross, FEMA and national church charities leave.

Local and national media events only tell the immediate story. What we don't see on our televisions are the months and often years that it takes for families to restore their routine way of life. This cycle of frustration includes waiting on insurance adjusters and building contractors, securing temporary living quarters, restoring utilities, arranging for time-off from work and simply rebuilding the basic essential and familiar aspects of living.

Emergency Case Management procedures have been established to assist each family with an immediate needs assessment. Each situation is unique and very personal. The goal of the Long-Term Recovery Committee is to identify and resolve these issues without delay or unnecessary red-tape.

Once basic human needs have been satisfied, intermediate and longer-term assistance can then focus on restoring and rebuilding permanent living accommodations, replace furnishings and appliances, facilitate relocation or storage needs and essentially restore life as it had been prior to the disaster.

The objective of the Long-Term Recovery Committee is to coordinate the delivery of long-term recovery assistance to victims of major disasters in Sumner County, Tennessee. This effort involves multiple agencies, including governmental, not-for-profit organizations, nonprofit agencies, civic and service groups, religious organizations, educational groups, the Ministerial Association, the local Emergency Management Agency, and county and community leadership groups. It is also our goal to assist other local long-term recovery groups where we are needed.
